Applications
Magdalen Road Studios was set up in August 1999 by Diana Bell and the late Kevin Slingsby with the aim of providing affordable studio space in Oxford.
Since 2010
Magdalen Road Studios has been a registered charity, the objectives of which are to promote the visual arts to the general public through direct engagement with artists in a studio setting. To achieve these objectives, the charity provides and manages affordable studios and exhibition space and creates opportunities for the public to participate in the visual arts within this setting.
Magdalen Road Studios is overseen by a board of trustees, supported by two studio managers and the studio members themselves.
Magdalen Road Studios offers a programme of arts education for all ages and regularly welcomes the public in to hear talks or visit during 'open studio days'. There are currently 26 artists working at the studios with varying practices: ceramicists, photographers, installation artists, a fashion designer and painters. Artists are required to contribute to studio life by taking on roles such as curating shows, fundraising and promotion, developing the website or maintaining the building.
Please note that not all studios are suitable for every form of artistic practice and that health and safety concerns may preclude the use of a particular studio for particular kinds of work. Please also read the terms and conditions. Terms and Conditions as downloadable pdf
Prior to applying for a studio space it is advised that you contact the studio manager (email) to find out availability of spaces at MRS that are compatible with your practice and, if required, to arrange a tour of the buildings.
