Rearranging formulae
unwrapping books
metron at the 03 Gallery
Oxford Castle
20 March - 25 April 2010
Following the success of Endnotes: Unwrapping Books in 2009, Magdalen Road Studio artists Annabel Ralphs and Diane Jones-Parry have been invited to curate another exhibition that invites artists to make work in response to books.
To celebrate the International Year of Science, a number of mathematics and science books, ranging from primary to academic texts and journals, were selected and donated by Oxford University Press.
A number was allocated to each book, and these were drawn against an alphabetical list of 25 participating artists names. The books were wrapped and distributed and the artists have been asked to respond to their book in any way they chose.
The exhibition will be launched at the 03 gallery, Oxford Castle, where it has been timed to coincide with the Oxford Literary Festival, and moves to OUP in October 2010.

Art in the Arboretum
Twelve artists from Oxford, France, Germany and Romania will be creating work in the Arboretum during the month of July in response to the site. Visitors are welcome to watch the artists at work.
Art in the Arboretum is organised by Magdalen Road Studios, Oxford and Art-in-Situ, France in collaboration with Harcourt Arboretum.
Jam: Cultural Congestions in Contemporary Asian Art

7 February - 5 April 2009
Mansion Space Galleries opening times:
Monday to Saturday 9am - 11pm
Sunday and Bank Holidays 11am - 10.30pm
Bracknell Gallery:
Wednesday 7.00pm - 9.30pm
Thursday to Saturday 1.00pm - 9.30pm
Sunday 1pm-5pm
Directions at: http://www.southhillpark.org.uk/aboutUsTravel.jsp
This exhibition presents a think-tank that explores the concept of cultural congestion in visual art practices. As international migration grows in the UK, the movement of people, objects and identities have taken on a political and cultural character of their own, which leaves us with a cultural congestion – Jam. Does this congestion enable pausing and reflection of the richness and diversity across cultures or does it exhaust us?
Exploring the concept of Jam, South Hill Park is delighted to present recent work by Madi Acharya-Baskerville, Ming Turner, Tsai-Wei Chen, I-Ting Hou, Su-Chen Hsu, Emma Kwan, Feng-Ru Lee, Wang Ruobing, Bindu Mehra & Himanshu Desai, Hua Kuan Sai, Meng-Hung (Sam) Su and Pei-Shih Tu. Many of the artworks are previously unseen in the UK.Also, please join us for the performance on 4 April, 3pm, by the Taiwanese artist Feng-Ru Lee that traces back imagery from the memories of her childhood.
The exhibition is curated by Madi Acharya-Baskerville, Yi-Fang Chen and Outi Remes, and supported by the National Culture & Arts Foundation, Taiwan, the National Arts Council Singapore and Panasonic.
