With simple acts of observation and constant questioning I try to make visible the way in which we encounter a world that obeys fundamental laws, yet has a disposition for disorder, complexity and unpredictability. I like to examine the spaces and relationships between our ideas; allusive references and associations that trigger our imagination, and this has influenced my choice of subject matter and materials. There are many levels on which a work existsor comes into being, and I'm conscious of a desire to allow each piece to emerge, to retain a sensitivity to process and materials in order to see and experience a world that consists of shifting realities.

Diane Jones-Parry returned to study as a mature student and graduated with a First Class BA(Hons) degree in Fine Art at Oxford Brookes University in July 2000. Her first degree, was in Printed Textiles and Printmaking at Camberwell School of Art (now part of the London Institute) followed by an ATC at Hornsey. She then took the trans-Siberian route to Hong Kong, and spent fourteen years in the Far East, in further or higher education, as a teacher, lecturer, and head of department at Hong Kong University. She also undertook commissioned and freelance design work, including a series of murals for the International Mandarin Hotel. On returning to England and establishing herself in an administrative role in art education, she was stimulated by the creative ideas and energy she witnessed in contemporary art theory and practice, and made the decision to develop her own abilities as a full time fine art student. This has enabled her to explore a variety of materials and processes, acquire a range of conceptual and technical skills, and develop an appropriate use of different media, including photography, video, sound and film.

Diane has been a member of Magdalen Road Studios for almost two years, has completed the first year of a part-time MA in Contemporary Art and Music, and is currently working on a community arts project in Oxford. She is also a member of 'Off the Wall'; a group of recent arts graduates that meets on a regular basis to provide critical discussion, support and exchange information.

Exhibitions include: Eclectica; Final Year Degree Show in Oxford, June 2000; a group show at BMW, Summertown, Oxford, July 2000; Geography; at Stroud House Gallery, Gloucestershire, August 2000; and regular exhibitions at Magdalen Road Studios.
