Think of yourself as a house, constructed storey by storey. If the foundations are not strong, the house can never be secure.
The focus of my work deals with issues of child abuse, and the effects which this can have on a person as they grow older.
I have used paraphernalia found at car-boot sales; including toys and domestic objects, which evoke certain elements of nostalgia, memories of childhood and past experiences. Elements of my work involves defacing old prints, manuscripts and found objects. At first glance the work can seem quite innocent and harmless, although upon closer inspection it reveals something much more sinister.
Language and the use of text play an important role in my work. I have taken quotes from case study interviews and from personal stories of people dealing with issues of child abuse.
