Luke Skiffington
Luke Skiffington’s work continues to reference natural and man-made environments alongside more ambiguous, abstract iconography. While his work is often based on particular imagery, the finished paintings accumulate other associations through the making process and how they relate to one another. The resulting images seem to want to exist in two states at once, content to explore an array of visual and interpretative possibilities.
In contrast to the larger works, recent watercolours take a more playful approach suggesting themselves as momento-mori, as ciphers or markers of a sense of loss. They operate like a chronicle or recording, a culmination of different times and ideas.
