The elements of Martin Hackett’s collages are produced using a variety of black-and-white darkroom techniques. Images and textures are created from conventional negatives made using a camera; computer-generated and hand-drawn transparencies, and translucent found materials; or produced by the direct action of chemicals and light on photographic paper. They are intimate in scale, with glass and framing an essential part of the work.
He is currently working on a series of larger-scale composite pieces using similar techniques.
Martin is also an improvising musician and a writer of texts for performance.
