Trustee vacancies at Magdalen Road Studios

There are vacancies on the board of trustees at Magdalen Road Studios.  If you are interested and think you have the right qualities, we’d like to hear from you.

  • Do you have an interest in contemporary visual arts?

  • Would you like to support the work of artists in East Oxford?

  • Are you prepared to give time and share your skills for a good cause?

What is Magdalen Road Studios?

Magdalen Road Studios is a not for profit, charitable arts organisation that opens the doors to artistic endeavour in East Oxford.

Our charity aims to promote the visual arts to the general public through direct engagement with artists in a studio setting.  In support of these objectives the charity provides and manages reasonably priced studios and exhibition space and creates opportunities for the public to participate in the visual arts.

What do we do?

As the largest provider of studio space in Oxford, we rent 24 studios to artists, and offer associate membership to artists who do not rent studios with us.  The long waiting list of artists who would like to join us demonstrates that the studios fulfil a real local and city-wide need.

As well as studios for rent, we offer a cultural programme based in the Magdalen Art Space, our exhibition and project facility.  We provide a balanced programme, from artist talks and workshops to solo and collective exhibitions, residencies, studio tours, and much more.  The use of the space is available on application to external, visiting artists and studio members alike.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people with an interest in and enthusiasm for contemporary visual arts, particularly in the local context, but you don’t have to be an artist or have specialist knowledge of the art world to be a trustee.  - We are currently looking for trustees with experience or expertise in finance, fundraising and writing grant applications in particular, but if you think you have additional or complementary qualities to offer do not hesitate to contact us.

As a trustee at Magdalen Road Studios you would be joining a friendly team and we are sure you would find much to enjoy.  Being a trustee would give you a first-class opportunity to take part in the development of our busy artistic organisation as well as supporting the work of individual artists.

What do Trustees do?

Trustees are unpaid volunteers who are responsible for making sure the charity does what it was set up to do and oversees its management.

The board of trustees supports the development of initiatives that promote the artistic quality and the standing of the studios and works to maintain a firm and formal operational base and to make sure the charity is run professionally.

The minimum amount of time we ask trustees to commit is to attend up to eight two hour meetings in the course of a year.  Any more time you are able to spend on your role as a trustee would be very welcome.  For example, you may be happy to apply your own specialist skills to the running of the Studios by giving professional advice or by taking on particular projects.
